Introduction to Greatness
2022 is the year anime fans lose their mind. It is not even a joke. The lineup anime studios have in store for us this year is off the chain, literally. We’re already feasting on the commencement of Demon Slayer’s Entertainment district arc that started last year and is already serving us action sequences that are blowing minds.
Attack On Titan has already embarked on its season finale – the first episode, new OST is already sending fans into a frenzy. We know the season finale is going to be a blockbuster. Outside of that, the lineup would be the equivalent of a world 11 in a FIFA game. Let’s dig in.
The Line Up for those Continuing Seasons
Haikyuu
If you’re a sports fan, anime about sports is probably your entrance into the anime world. The Japanese anime franchises all have stories and action sequences that allow you to fall in love with the sport even if you’ve never played or held an interest in it.
Haikyuu is a volleyball anime that follows a high school student named Hinata Shoyo, whose dream is to become a great volleyball player despite his stature.
The franchise is currently seeing Hinata’s high school competing in a national tournament with world-class leveled volleyball players from all around the county.
Haikyuu is gearing up for its fifth season, and the next arc (their arcs cover the games they play) will be a heavy hitter since it’s a classic rivalry that everyone has been waiting for.
Dr. Stone
Dr. Stone takes on a different approach concerning the Shonen genre. With a more focused concept on the scientific aspect of things, Dr. Stone follows a young teenage genius named Senku Ishigami, who breaks out of mysterious petrification. Petrification has affected the whole world after 3,700 years.
Senku plans to rebuild civilization after coming back to life but faces struggles after he heals a few others. If you’re into science stuff, this is an anime you should check out because season one was something special, and season two will no doubt follow suit.
My Hero Academia
My Hero Academia is a classic shonen anime that combines the concept of heroes and villains with powers that are called quirks. Young Midoriya is a fledgling who has followed the story of heroes and been the biggest fan of All Might, the number one hero in Japan at the time.
However, upon testing, Midoriya discovers, much to his dismay, that he does not have an inherent quirk and hence will not be able to achieve his dream of being like All Might, following in his footsteps.
In a rare occurrence, he runs into All Might, who decides that Midoriya is worthy to be his successor. With that decision, he passes on his quirk to him. The previous statement might raise questions, but all of that is answered as the franchise follows Midoriya as he develops his newfound quirk in a bid to become like All Might.
They are readying the 6th season, and if you’re a manga reader, you’re aware of what is about to happen. The anime is thought to be light-hearted by many fans. But all that might change as the realization dawns on the heroes that they might be engaging in combat on a large scale soon.
Rising of the Shield Hero
Isekai means otherworldly in Japanese. It is a concept for a story that centers on characters transported from their world and having to survive in another world. There is a lot of anime that comes to mind when you mention Isekai.
There is Sword Art Online, Re: Zero, No Game No Life, The Devil is a Part-Timer (which is on this list), amongst others. Now, you cannot go 4 or 5 without mentioning the Rising of the Shield Hero. Season 2 of this anime has been anticipated after it took fans on an emotional roller coaster.
We got to grow with one particular character who was treated unfairly amongst all the other transported individuals. He had to fight from the ground up to reach the proverbial top, and even then, he still did not get the respect he warranted.
Irrespective of that, he forges on to prove his honor. The story has nowhere else to go but up. It has so many directions it could run in based on everything that happened in the premiere season.
Concluding
These are just the first 4 of 8 that we believe will set the pace this year. However, there is more to say. And even more new franchises to touch on as the year breathes it all in.
