Stars Shine and KDG$ represents just that – stardom. The saying goes from the scriptures that whatever is in the dark will come to light, but if we know anything about music and the industry, it’s that the darkness doesn’t necessarily mean a bad thing.
Sometimes greatness is just waiting for the right amount of light to shine on it enough to emanate its innate essence to people.
For Ghanaian music, the past few years have represented an avalanche of talents breaking onto the scene.
From the famous Asakaa movement to the alternative genre, the potential and ability to reach the rest of the world with our music have only increased.
As was the case of many before him who had to bide their time, KDG$ had to wait quite a bit to get here, but even he’ll tell you, the journey has been worth it.
Shining light on who KDG$ is & his accomplishment
As the first East African artist featured on Urban Roll, an organization that showcases and helps discover talent regardless of where it comes from, KDG$ is already carrying himself as a trailblazer, especially for artists from his home country Malawi.
Born David Sage Ngosi, the artist who heavily leans into the Hip-hop genre of music, lacing his style with elements from drill, trap, afrobeat, and R’n’B is fast becoming a favorite with his stellar and energetic live performances.
It’s more infectious energy when he hops on a beat to pour out his soul.
“There’s so much more to me and my style I can’t wait to share with you, appreciate and love all y’all supporting. I promise you I’m about to surprise you with my versatility and talent.”
A personal quote we got from the artist shows us that he’s hungry and he’s been working on his craft relentlessly. His debut single, Colder, has already made waves and put him on the map with industry-heavy hitters.
He turns heads with every stage he gets and keeps peeling back the layers to show the diversity in his style of music. But for any artist, the question is always why?
Why does the artist do what he does? What drives him every day? For KDG$, it’s super straightforward – to motivate the youth to chase their dreams. And he’s getting enough attention to do just that.
It was no surprise when Urban Roll decided to feature him for a live performance in their studios for his debut single. The kid is ready, and you would be blind to miss it.
The Pipeline & the Future for KDG$
The question now is, what’s next for the young rising star? Like every artist, we know hunger and passion pushes you to work on a backlog of things.
In interviews with our organization, he divulged many things, including that he has songs numbering up to 50, all created in 5 months. There has to be a project somewhere along the horizon, right? Well, people turn out there is.
The young artist has revealed a debut EP on the way titled Heart of a Savage Volume 1. The artist explained that the project will give an insight into the background and stories that have created KDG$. This includes personal stories, his journey to finding his motivations and passions, and matters of the heart.
The understanding behind this direction speaks to introducing himself as an artist and a person to his audience. This makes sense because this era pushes artists to be more vulnerable than most, and what better way to do that than through artistry?
The producers on this anticipated project are the famed Kuvie, 2shuus, and Bookah wpmg. KDG$ will be featuring $pacely of La Meme fame, Nya, and rapper J Kesh. Since it is an EP, it won’t go beyond 5 songs, meaning we’re in for a short, sweet, and phenomenal music treat.
This is huge for all the fans and listeners who have been enjoying his art. Because it means there’s a body of work bound to be in their ears soon. In the meantime, check out KDG$ on all streaming platforms and enjoy his music.
